Waterhouse tipping a 2025 Breeders Plate trifecta

Posted by RS NewsWire at 9:47am on October 2nd

Predicting a trifecta in a Stakes race would usually be far-fetched, but for Gai Waterhouse in the Breeders’ Plate, it’s a genuine possibility.

The champion trainer, alongside Adrian Bott, has trained the trifecta in the past two editions of the Randwick feature. King Kirk, Tempestuous and North England filled the placings last year, while Espionage, Straight Charge and Prost did the same in 2022.

On Saturday, Tulloch Lodge again has a strong hand with Eviction Notice, I’m Ya Huckleberry and Revengeance all stepping out in the $250,000 Group 3.

“I think we’ll trifecta the Breeders’ Plate,” Waterhouse said. “I think we’ve got a horse that could easily be a Golden Slipper horse and I said that before Pierro won the Golden Slipper.”

It was after Pierro’s 2011 Breeders’ Plate win that Waterhouse confidently predicted his Golden Slipper success, a prophecy he fulfilled the following autumn.

Eviction Notice, a colt by Stay Inside, gave a glimpse of elite talent when romping home by nearly eight lengths in a trial at Randwick last week, clocking 49.53 seconds.

“He’s a very, very sharp horse,” Waterhouse said. “He does everything right. He won his trial by seven lengths and ran super time.”

Stablemate I’m Ya Huckleberry, by Home Affairs, also impressed with a slick trial win in 49.54 seconds, while Hellbent colt Revengeance showed promise when clocking 50.38 seconds in his heat.

“I’m Ya Huckleberry, he’s a beautiful colt; big and strong, knock you in the nose and go ‘boom’,” Waterhouse said. “The other horse, Revengeance, has just jumped out of the ground since his trial.”

Waterhouse and Bott will also field three fillies in the Gimcrack Stakes, headlined by $420,000 purchase Shiki, who recorded the fastest trial of the morning in 49.46 seconds. She will be joined by Home Invasion, who clocked 50.63, and The Wildling, who finished third in Shiki’s heat.

Knightsbridge, a $750,000 Farnan colt, heads to Flemington for the $175,000 Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes, where Waterhouse is seeking consecutive wins following Tremonti’s victory last year.

“Knightsbridge is a natural two-year-old, an absolute natural,” Waterhouse said. “Very good-looking horse, very light on his feet.”

With such a strong team engaged, Waterhouse and Bott look set for another big day in the juvenile ranks.
