Globe to tackle big guns at Caulfield in The Might And Power Stakes 2025

Posted by RS NewsWire at 8:14pm on October 6th

Globe is poised to roll the dice at the top level, with trainer Mick Price eyeing this Saturday’s The Might And Power at Caulfield as a race that plays to the gelding’s strengths despite the class hike.

Just nine horses were nominated at Monday’s deadline for the 2000-metre weight-for-age, and while facing standouts like Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo is a leap from his recent open handicaps, Globe shapes as the field’s natural pacemaker—an edge Price and co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr hope to exploit.

“That’s the attraction for Globe, that he gets left alone,” Price said.

“He’s not as good as the others, but it doesn’t matter. He’ll bowl along in front, he’ll give plenty of cheek.”

It will be Globe’s Group 1 debut and first Stakes appearance since a second-last finish in April’s Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m). His only 2000m run to date yielded a Ballarat Cup third behind Berkeley Square.

His spring build-up reads well: runner-up over 1523m at Moonee Valley on August 23, fourth over 1700m at Flemington on September 13, then grabbed late by Charterhouse at Sandown on September 27—each defeat by no more than half a length.

Also entered for the $2m Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill, Globe would only head north if rain arrives. Early-week showers give way to a fine, sunny forecast through Saturday.

Stablemate Hezashocka holds a Might And Power nomination with connections yet to commit. Other entries include Light Infantry Man, Attrition and Kingswood (all also in the Hill Stakes), plus Charterhouse and Whisky On The Hill.

The Might And Power is one of three Group 1s on the Caulfield card, alongside the Caulfield Guineas and the Toorak Handicap—both contested at 1600m.
