Tempted to run for Godolphin in The Everest

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:30pm on October 7th

Ciaron Maher and jockey Craig Williams will once again join forces in pursuit of consecutive victories in the world’s richest turf race, The Everest, after Godolphin confirmed Tempted would represent them in this year’s $20 million feature.

The pair combined 12 months ago when Bella Nipotina stormed to victory in the Group 1 The Everest (1200m) at Randwick, and they will now look to repeat the feat with the talented filly Tempted.

This year’s edition will be run on October 18, with just one slot remaining after Private Harry was withdrawn and sent for a spell, leaving Yulong Investments searching for a replacement runner.

Tempted has quickly established herself among the top sprinting fillies in the country. As a two-year-old, she collected two Group 2 victories before running a brave third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill.

Since resuming as a three-year-old, the daughter of a Godolphin shuttle stallion captured the Group 2 Run To The Rose before finishing third behind stablemate Beiwacht in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) last month.

Godolphin Australia Managing Director Andy Makiv said the decision to select Tempted for their Everest slot was an easy one, praising her professionalism and pedigree.

“Tempted is a top-class filly. She’s in great form and three-year-olds have a strong record in a race like The Everest,” Makiv said.

“She represents everything we stand for at Godolphin. She’s by one of our shuttle stallions, and was bred, raised, and developed across our farms. To see her line up in The Everest is a proud moment for everyone involved.”

With Maher’s sharp eye for detail and Williams’ experience under pressure, the Tempted combination is shaping as a major player in this year’s The Everest. Punters can check the latest odds and betting markets for the feature sprint via Australia’s top betting sites.
