Treasurethe Moment to rebound in the 2025 Might And Power Stakes

Trainer Matt Laurie admits the small field for Saturday’s Group 1 Might And Power (2000m) at Caulfield isn’t the ideal scenario for Treasurethe Moment as she builds toward the Cox Plate, but says the star mare is primed to perform.
The $1 million race attracted only five acceptors, and with Light Infantry Man expected to head to the Hill Stakes (1900m) in Sydney, it could leave just four runners. On paper, the feature shapes as a duel between Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo, with Globe and Hezashoka filling the minor slots.
“I would prefer to have a few more runners in the race, but it is what it is,” Laurie said on SEN. “I expect Globe to roll forward and we’ll probably trail it. It’s not your typical Group 1 setup, but hopefully it plays out in our favour.”
Treasurethe Moment was unbeaten in nine runs before being toppled by Pride Of Jenni in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1600m) last month. Laurie said a mild colic episode before that race may have left her below her best but that she’s since improved sharply.
“She’s come on a lot since the Feehan,” Laurie said. “Her last couple of gallops have been excellent, and the equimetre data confirms she’s improved significantly. The step up to 2000 metres should be perfect, and she’s in great order.”
Laurie acknowledged the unusual makeup of the race but said the mare’s condition gives him confidence heading into The Valley. “It’s not exactly how we planned it leading into the Cox Plate, but it’s still a $1 million race and a good test for her. Her work’s been great and she’s happy.”
Damian Lane, unbeaten on Treasurethe Moment in seven previous rides, will be back aboard after missing the Feehan through suspension.
