Lady Shenandoah spot on to upset Ka Ying Rising in 2025 The Everest
Darren Beadman says Ka Ying Rising’s challenge in The Everest (1200m) will be more about adapting to Randwick’s unique surface than any lack of ability, as the Hong Kong superstar prepares for his Australian debut.
The six-time Hong Kong champion jockey Zac Purton suggested Randwick’s turf may have unsettled Ka Ying Rising during his recent trial defeat, and Beadman — who rode in Hong Kong for four seasons — agreed that the track presents new variables.
“Randwick has a sandier profile, and it’s more undulating — it’s not the flat, billiard-table style of Sha Tin,” Beadman said. “Good horses handle it, though, and Ka Ying Rising certainly fits that category.”
Beadman, now working under Chris Waller, has turned his attention to the stable’s three Everest hopefuls: Lady Shenandoah, Joliestar, and Angel Capital. “Everyone can debate the Hong Kong horse, but I just know our three are right where we want them,” he said.
Lady Shenandoah tuned up with a solo gallop over 1000m at Rosehill in 1:06.84, finishing off in 36.83 seconds. “She’s got no fat on her — she’s in top order,” Beadman said. “She’s actually doing better now than before Melbourne.”
McEvoy partnered her in the gallop but is booked for Jedibeel in The Everest, while James McDonald and Damian Lane are expected to ride Waller’s other contenders, and Ben Melham is confirmed for Angel Capital.
