Ka Ying Rising fit for 2025 The Everest field
David Hayes has firmly denied online rumours surrounding Ka Ying Rising’s health, declaring the Hong Kong superstar is in top order and primed for Saturday’s $20 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick.
Reports on Sunday falsely claimed the gelding was lame and had been scratched from the race. Hayes addressed the speculation after Ka Ying Rising impressed in a solo Canterbury gallop on Monday morning.
“It was fake news,” Hayes said. “My son JD got a call from Gareth Hall, who said his Twitter account had been hacked. The post said the horse was lame and not eating — that’s not the horse I’ve been training. The phone went into meltdown for hours.”
Ka Ying Rising worked home in 38 seconds for the final 600m, with the last furlong in 12 seconds, pleasing his trainer. “He’s really come on from the trial,” Hayes said. “He’s bright, recovered perfectly, and his condition is excellent. He’s ready to go.”
Hayes confirmed that was his final serious gallop before tapering work through the week. “He’ll have a quiet few days — light canters and a breeze on Thursday before raceday.”
The Everest lineup was finalised Monday, with Yulong confirming Mazu will fill its slot in place of the injured Private Harry. “It’s disappointing to lose Private Harry, but Mazu is a terrific inclusion,” said Yulong’s Sam Fairgray. “We’re thrilled to have three great chances in the world’s richest turf race.”
