Apocalyptic tracks well ahead of the Thousand Guineas 2025

Star filly Apocalyptic will continue her remarkable spring preparation in Saturday’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield, with trainer Michael Freedman opting to push on following her impressive Sydney campaign rather than send her for a spell.
The daughter of Capitalist has quickly established herself as one of Australia’s brightest three-year-olds, extending her winning streak to three with a dominant performance in the Group 1 Flight Stakes at Randwick on October 4. After travelling south and settling in well, Freedman confirmed she would take her place in the Caulfield feature this weekend.
“I did give some thought to stopping and giving her a break, but she pulled up so we well after the Flight that we thought as long as she travelled down well and settled in well that it was worth a shy at the stumps,” Freedman said.
Apocalyptic had her first look at Caulfield on Tuesday morning, galloping alongside stablemate Just A Journey with Mark Zahra aboard. Freedman said the workout was an important part of her preparation and he was delighted with how she handled the tighter circuit. “I’m pretty excited about her and she’s done a lot in a short space of time,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the autumn with her as well. I think she’s one of the better ones that I’ve had anything to do with.”
Freedman explained that giving the filly an opportunity to familiarise herself with the track was crucial. “That was why I was keen to give her a look around here this morning,” he said. “I’ve brought a few here and they find it a difficult place to get around. They seem to get around Moonee Valley better for some reason. She seemed to track on the right leg most of the way today. You could see at the top of the straight she was having a look, but that was the whole idea of coming here. I loved the way she worked through the line and Mark seemed really happy.”
While Apocalyptic is Freedman’s star attraction this weekend, stablemate Just A Journey will take her place in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) after her narrow second in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington earlier this month. “It was a good run in the Manifold,” Freedman said. “She’s a nice genuine type of staying filly and I thought the Ethereal would suit.”
Apocalyptic is among the early favourites for the Thousand Guineas as she chases a fourth straight win and a second Group 1 title. For those looking to back her, the best odds and bookmaker promotions can be found through Australia’s leading betting sites.
