Jedibeel makes Melbourne debut in 2025 VRC Champions Sprint
Hawkesbury conditioner Brad Widdup will take Jedibeel to Flemington for the VRC Champions Sprint (1200m), marking the gelding’s Victorian debut.
The Savabeel six-year-old has spent his racing life in New South Wales, where he worked steadily through the ranks and claimed Stakes wins in both the Listed Razor Sharp Stakes (1200m) and the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m).
He has since contested three consecutive Group 1 sprints, his most recent run coming in The Everest on October 18.
Widdup is pleased with where Jedibeel is at.
“He has been really good all preparation,” he said.
“We missed that first run early on, but everything has flowed nicely apart from that. I thought his Everest run was excellent.”
Jedibeel skipped the Russell Balding Stakes last Saturday due to an unfavourable draw.
“We didn’t want to use a run under those circumstances,” Widdup explained.
Instead, the gelding heads to Flemington for the straight-track test.
“He has worked the Victorian direction, but the straight is always different,” Widdup said.
“If he can switch off and stalk, he’ll be hitting the line late.”
