Strictly Business too good in the 2025 VRC Crown Oaks
Strictly Business delivered a stunning performance to capture the $1 million VRC Oaks (2500m), giving trainer Thomas Carberry his first Group 1 win and continuing a standout spring for Ballarat-based stables.
The filly had only won her maiden at Ballarat less than two weeks ago, but a strong closing performance in the Wakeful Stakes indicated she was ready for the extended trip.
“We always knew she’d stay,” Carberry said.
“We just needed the right progression and she’s taken every step.”
Strictly Business ($7.50) surged away late to defeat The Pearls ($8), with After Summer ($31) close behind in third place.
Hot favourite Getta Good Feeling ($1.80) threatened turning for home but faded in the final 300m.
Jockey John Allen praised the training effort behind the breakthrough victory.
“To go from a maiden to an Oaks winner in 13 days — that’s something you won’t see often,” Allen said.
The triumph comes in the same week Ballarat celebrated the Melbourne Cup win of Half Yours.
