Wet track a query for Tentyris in 2025 Champions Sprint
Tentyris may not take his place in Saturday’s VRC Champions Sprint if the Flemington track deteriorates, with the weather forecast shaping as the key factor in the colt’s upcoming decision.
The rising star rocketed to Group 1 success in last weekend’s Coolmore Stud Stakes and has recovered superbly, but the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable has made it clear they do not want to run him on heavy going.
The Bureau has predicted up to 30mm of rain on Saturday, potentially shifting the surface into territory the stable wants to avoid.
“Everything has been perfect with him since the Coolmore,” Sam Freedman said.
“His work has been light — he’s fit, healthy and in a great frame of mind. Rain is the only concern.”
Freedman said the colt will only run if the surface holds around the Good 4 to Soft range.
“If it ends up genuinely heavy, we’ll think about waiting. He’s got too big a future to risk.”
The stable expects the race to be shaped by pace, with stablemate Tropicus the natural leader.
“Tropicus will roll forward and take luck out of the equation,” Freedman said.
Craig Williams takes over from Mark Zahra at 53.5kg, while Zahra is booked for Giga Kick.
Freedman noted that the rain would actually favour Tropicus rather than hinder him.
“He’ll handle it no worries. If the rain comes, he’ll be the one up front giving them something to run down.”
