Vivy reaches rare Air in 2025 The Five Diamonds triumph
Connections of Vivy Air have enjoyed an extraordinary Melbourne Cup week, with the Ciaron Maher-trained mare backing up her second placing in the Big Dance to claim the $2 million Five Diamonds at Rosehill.
The mare added $600,000 from Tuesday’s run and another $1.155 million for Saturday’s win, banking more than $1.7 million across five days.
Assistant trainer Jo Gerard-Dubord said the stable couldn’t be prouder.
“She’s very tough and to back up like that is an achievement,” he said.
Reece Jones saved ground near the inside before driving Vivy Air ($5.50) through late to score over Transatlantic ($3.80 fav) and Militarize ($4) in a tight finish.
Jones admitted the mare didn’t travel well early.
“She wasn’t comfortable early and I was worried,” he said.
“But she was strong late. She proved how tough she is.”
Bullet Point’s jockey Cieren Fallon said missing the start ended his chances.
“We were stuck and had no way out,” he said.
