Angel Capital ready to fire in 2025 CF Orr Stakes

Angel Capital is no stranger to Caulfield, but Chris Waller still chose to take the colt back to the course on Tuesday morning for his final tune-up ahead of Saturday’s $1 million CF Orr Stakes.

The striking four-year-old worked over the course proper, returning to the scene of several of his best performances at the 1400-metre trip, in what Waller described as part of a plan to ensure everything is perfect on race day.

“Just to keep him ticking over, he’s a colt and to keep him interested,” Waller said.

“Get him back at Caulfield, which he’s been to before, get him on a soft track – his better form’s on Good tracks – and just get him used to the environment.

“It’s a big day for him and (we’re) ticking every box.”

Angel Capital has raced at Caulfield four times, including last season’s Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude win and his Group 2 Autumn Stakes victory, both achieved before being purchased by Yulong and transferred from Clinton Mcdonald to Waller.

His most recent Caulfield appearance for his new stable came in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on September 20, where he was held up at a crucial stage yet still finished less than 1.5 lengths from the winner.

Ben Melham, who partnered Angel Capital to his two Caulfield victories, reunited with the entire in The Everest and again takes the reins this weekend. Waller said Melham’s feedback after Tuesday’s hit-out was encouraging.

“He knows the horse better than I do and he said he feels great; he’s nice and relaxed,” Waller said.

“The 1400 metres, he’s ready for it, but obviously it’s going to be a great race.”

Angel Capital sits second in early Orr Stakes markets, just behind Russell Balding Stakes winner Jimmysstar, with Evaporate next in line following her placing in the Golden Eagle.
