Hayes Rolls the dice in the 2025 Summoned Stakes

Lindsay Park will look to capitalise on a timely spring opening when Roll On High lines up in Saturday’s Group 3 Summoned Stakes at Caulfield.

The five-year-old mare, who hasn’t won since mid-2023, is being given another chance at black-type success following her powerful late finish in the Group 3 Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes 11 days ago.

Co-trainer Ben Hayes said the race wasn’t originally part of the spring blueprint, but her recent form made it too good to ignore.

“We were originally not going to head to this race, but we looked at the noms and thought it was very suitable,” Hayes said.

“She’s come through the last run excellent. She ran some of the fastest splits of the meeting, but still got beaten, and I think this is a good opportunity to get another Stakes win.”

Roll On High has opened at $3.30 and will break from barrier eight, with bookmakers showing strong support for her chances.

She last raced over 1600m in March of last year when finishing fourth in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes. Her only other outing beyond 1400m came when second in a Bendigo maiden early in her career for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.

Hayes admits there is some uncertainty surrounding the distance but is eager to give her the chance.

“It’s a big question mark, but she hasn’t been tried out to that trip very much and the way she hit the line the other day, you’d suggest a mile would be no problems.”

The Shamus Award mare has strong bloodlines as a relation to Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul, adding further interest to her campaign.
