Glory in The Warra 2025 as Jason Coyle makes right call

Posted by RS NewsWire at 9:31am on November 23rd

Trainer Jason Coyle revealed he repeatedly considered scratching Catch The Glory from the The Warra, but his decision to stay in the race proved decisive as the mare claimed an important stakes win.

She had been earmarked for next week’s Starlight Stakes (1100m), but with the The Warra (1000m) field smaller than anticipated, Coyle warmed to taking the early opportunity.

Rain remained his key concern, and once the track deteriorated, he again questioned the plan — until favourite Zealously was withdrawn, pushing him firmly toward running.

“I thought I’d have a look at the track when I got here (to Kembla Grange), and then I looked at my phone and Peter (Snowden) had already scratched (Zealously),” Coyle said.

“He beat me to it, and lucky he did.

“I know she tries hard and even if she didn’t let down as good as she possibly could, I knew she’d still run a race.”

With jockey Jason Collett shifting her to the superior going out wide, Catch The Glory ($4.60) charged late and overran The Black Cloud ($4 fav) in the dying moments.

Sunrise ($4.20) produced an admirable performance from the front, sticking on for a determined third.

Coyle confirmed that the The Warra would serve as her only run this prep, noting her quick turnaround and his intention to lift her further for the autumn carnival.

“That will be her done for this preparation,” he said.

“We’ll tip her out, give her another nice break and hopefully in the autumn, I feel like she has got another level to give.

“Her rating will go up. She is a stakes winner now. She came in for one of the two races, and we’ve knocked that off.”

Coyle already owns two Group 1 titles — the 2009 Champagne Stakes with Onemorenomore and the T J Smith with Linky Dink during his Patinack Farm years.
