Choice weather forecast for Litt duo in the 2025 Razor Sharp Handicap

Trainer Richard Litt is hoping Sydney’s pending wet weather plays directly into the hands of his runners Barber and Romeo’s Choice when they contest the Razor Sharp Handicap at Randwick.

Both horses are expected to appreciate any give in the track, and Litt believes soft conditions could elevate Romeo’s Choice in particular.

“He absolutely loves the wet. The wetter the better,” Litt said.

“Where he lacks a length-and-a-half on really good ground, he will make that up by two or three lengths on soft ground.

“They’ve both drawn a little bit tricky, but if the rain comes, it might work in our favour.”

Barber, formerly a Godolphin sprinter, was bought by Monarch Bloodstock and wasted no time rewarding connections with a strong victory in the Takeover Target Stakes (1200m).

Romeo’s Choice, a homebred gelding by Choistar, has been a stable stalwart with more than $500,000 in earnings thanks to his consistency and work ethic.

“He’s not a fashionably bred horse. He wasn’t an expensive yearling. He is a homebred by some wonderful owners who have brought him up like a child in their own backyard,” Litt said.

“He always shows up. There’s never a question about his effort, which makes training him a pleasure.”

The stable has enjoyed a strong run of form, and Litt says they have deliberately targeted this part of the season with horses best suited outside carnival time.

“We’re not hugely active throughout the carnival with topline horses, so this year we have focused on holding horses back a little bit and aiming for this time of year that’s not as strong as carnival time,” he said.
