Kris Lees sets sights on another summer strike

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:33pm on December 12th

Kris Lees has frequently struck during Sydney’s summer feature program, and he will again field a strong hand across Randwick’s stakes races on Saturday.

Lees’ achievements over the past decade include victories in The Ingham with Loch Eagle and Sense Of Occasion, as well as Razor Sharp Handicap wins with Special Reward and Zestful.

In this year’s Razor Sharp, Brudenell shapes as the stable’s leading hope following near misses at his past two runs, including a strong third in The Hunter at Newcastle.

“He’s up in the weights a bit these days but he’s had four weeks between runs, and he races well like that,” Lees said.

“He was good in The Hunter. It’s probably a slight drop in grade and he needs the right run from a tricky gate (13).”

Lees’ trio for The Ingham — Loch Eagle, Tavi Time and You Whang — each bring different strengths, but weather will shape their prospects.

“Tavi Time doesn’t need the rain, Loch Eagle needs the rain and You Whang (21), she probably needs a bit of luck from the gate,” Lees said.

“She may also need one more run… she is going well and is being targeted at the Magic Millions.”

Age Of Sail rounds out Lees’ stakes lineup in the Christmas Cup following a promising effort in The Beauford.

“It looks a nice race for him,” Lees said.
