Fox on the hunt of 2025 The Supernova win
Emma-Lee and David Browne will “roll the dice” one more time with Statuario as they search for a fairytale hometown victory in the Listed Pakenham Cup (2500m).
The Kiwi trainers shifted to Victoria in 2022 and settled into Pakenham last season, where a local Cup triumph would be particularly meaningful — and well celebrated.
“It would be great to win the local Cup,” Emma-Lee Browne said.
“And I reckon the party at the Garfield pub would be wild.”
Statuario earned another run after pulling up in peak condition from his third in the Listed Ballarat Cup, despite having looked ready for a spell two weeks earlier when luckless in the Cranbourne Cup.
“It was one of those unfortunate races at Cranbourne where he couldn’t get out,” Browne said.
“He was much better the other day, but he probably just cost himself late because of that Cranbourne run… he just peaked late.”
She said Statuario has thrived, but a dry track is essential.
“We don’t want too much rain… we’re watching the weather closely,” she said.
A wide draw means a quieter ride is likely.
“It probably forces our hand to ride him quietly and sometimes that’s when he’s at his best.”
Earlier in the year he showcased his staying potential with a Caulfield win and a runner-up finish in the Group 1 South Australian Derby (2500m).
The Brownes also line up Bifrost and Rhinoceros in supporting races.
