Weeping Woman too good in the 2025 Razor Sharp Handicap

Joe Pride’s team fired on all cylinders on Saturday, with six runners producing two wins, three seconds and a third across three states, including a dominant stable quinella in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap at Randwick.

Weeping Woman ($2.60 fav) finished strongest to overhaul Coal Crusher ($6), only 35 minutes after Estadio Mestalla ($9.50) chased valiantly behind Yorkshire ($3.90 fav) in the $2 million The Ingham (1600m).

The Black Cloud ($3.30 fav) provided the first of Pride’s wins when claiming the Listed Bribie Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm, while Private Eye ($2.20 fav) almost pulled off a major victory at Pakenham before being collared late in The Supernova (1400m).

Tennessir ($7.50) completed the afternoon with a third placing at Newcastle.

While Pride travelled to Victoria to oversee Private Eye, Orla Pearl represented the stable at Randwick and said Weeping Woman’s lift to stakes company had been a rewarding sight.

“It was just so good to see her put it all together and really stepping up this preparation,” Pearl said.

Also on the Randwick card, Future History ($5) broke a long drought when digging deep to claim the Listed Christmas Cup (2400m), denying Asterix ($7) in a hard-fought finish.

Adam Hyeronimus said a positive ride proved the difference.

“He’s a bit quirky and takes a bit of riding, but we controlled the race and that’s what won the race for us,” he said.

The veteran stayer, winner of the 2023 The Bart Cummings (2520m) and competitor in the Melbourne Cup (3200m), had not won since a Moonee Valley Group race last October.
