Unit Five on the move to Sydney ahead of 2026 Magic Millions Classic

Plans are already in motion for promising two-year-old Unit Five to head north as Ciaron Maher prepares him for the Magic Millions.
The son of Supido stamped himself as a leading contender with a polished debut victory in the Magic Millions VIC 2YO Classic (1100m) at Caulfield Heath, immediately shifting the focus to the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
Maher confirmed Unit Five is likely to be transferred to Sydney to prepare for racing right-handed ahead of the Queensland feature.
A Sydney trial is shaping as the preferred option rather than another race.
“He’ll go to Sydney, he’s got to get up there pretty quickly and maybe have a trial,” Maher said.
“You want to get up there, get acclimatised, gallop on the track.
“We train them both ways, but it would be good to get him up there and get used to that.
“He’ll have a few easy days and head to Sydney later in the week.”
The victory was Maher’s fourth two-year-old winner of the season and reinforced confidence in the stable’s juvenile pathways.
“The system is working, we refined it a little bit last year.,” Maher said.
“Ballarat they’re coming through there, it’s predominantly two-year-olds, and so is Bong Bong.”
Maher is also likely to be well represented in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Sandown on Boxing Day.
A Little Deep, Extratwo and Nadal are all potential runners.
Nadal has had three runs this preparation following bone chip surgery and his latest effort came in The Meteorite at Cranbourne.
Maher said the gelding remains on track.
“He’s in good order,” Maher said.
“His figures post-race were good, visually it only looked fair, but he actually went good.
“He probably needs to (lift), but I think he will.”
