Beaten form is good enough for Torabella in the 2025 Members Mile

Posted by RS NewsWire at 9:38pm on December 25th

Torabella’s last-start failure came down to circumstances, not ability, and trainer Tony Gollan is confident a smoother run will see her bounce back in Saturday’s Members Mile (1600m).

The mare never found her rhythm in the Tails Stakes, posted three-wide after vying for the lead and fading late to finish well back as the $3.70 favourite.

Gollan is putting a line through the run.

“She started favourite when there looked to be no speed at all last time,” he said.

“Then suddenly they went flat out. She did way too much work. I just want her to get a comfortable run early.”

Despite the defeat, Gollan noted she finished alongside Sibaaq, who subsequently won the Open 1800m.

Rain is forecast leading into race day, and Gollan hopes enough falls to avoid a firm Eagle Farm track.

Miss Joelene, who beat Torabella last start, again heads the market at $2.75.

Gollan also looks to make an impact in the Listed Falvelon Stakes, where Hidden Wealth ($3.90) shoulders 60kg.

“The winner (Caballus) was brilliant but he still could have finished second,” Gollan said. “He’s a class horse… and I’d love some rain around.”
