Litt upbeat with 2025 Gosford Guineas favourite

Richard Litt is pleased with what he has seen from emerging filly Caffe Florian, but the trainer insists patience remains the priority as she steps into Listed company.

While the filly carries the name of a famous Italian coffee institution, Litt is content to let her performances do the talking as she builds her résumé.

A $400,000 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale purchase in 2024, Caffe Florian has raced three times for two victories and a placing, all recorded at Canterbury.

Those efforts have earned her favouritism for Sunday’s Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m), where she will be tested at black-type level.

“She has always been a lovely filly and she has got the pedigree to match it so we’ve always had high hopes of her all the way along,” Litt said.

“We’ve given her plenty of time and she has come along nicely. What she has done so far has been excellent.

“She has to take the next step on Sunday but there are no expectations going around.”

The Snitzel filly hails from a productive family, with her dam Madam Andree producing multiple stakes-level and metropolitan winners.

Litt has been particularly happy with how the filly has come through her most recent win over 1100 metres earlier this month.

“She has trained on really nicely,” Litt added.

“We haven’t had to do too much with her because these races have fallen in quite nicely every two weeks.

“She’s ticked over very nicely and with this being her fourth run this preparation, she’s ultra fit and she seems to still be in a really good headspace.

“That is a lot for a filly in her first racing preparation which gives a good indication that she is quite tough.”

Litt said there is no rush to lock in plans beyond the Gosford Guineas.

“Whether she has a long or short break after this, we are not under any pressure to make plans,” he added.
