Caffe Florian stamps her quality in the 2025 Gosford Guineas

Posted by RS NewsWire at 6:22pm on December 28th

Caffe Florian’s rise through the grades continued at Gosford where the improving filly secured her first stakes victory in the Listed Gosford Guineas.

Trainer Richard Litt deliberately removed expectations ahead of the Snitzel filly’s black-type debut, viewing the 1200-metre contest as a learning experience rather than a grand final.

“Super filly and what she has done this preparation is pretty amazing,” Litt said.

“Jason rode her beautifully and nursed her around the corner. I think there is so much more improvement in her and she’ll go to the paddock now.

“We’ll look after her and she’ll come back a much better horse. We were happy to get here.”

Litt was reluctant to speculate on what lies ahead following the breakthrough win.

“Too much pressure for me,” the Warwick Farm-based said when prompted on future plans and, at this stage, there are not any other than a spell before higher aims.

With strong early speed ensuring a genuine tempo, Jason Collett had Caffe Florian ($1.75F) settled midfield before making a decisive move around the turn, sweeping to the lead and holding off Mareth ($5) by half a length, with Memo ($4.60) another 1¼ lengths back in third.

“She did it pretty easily and the pace was good early,” Collett said.

“She wouldn’t want any further at present as she’s still learning what it is about.

“We made an early move when the pace came off at the start of the turn and she won it soft in the end.”

Having finished third on debut in November, the $400,000 Inglis Easter buy has since rattled off three wins on the bounce, lifting her prizemoney haul to $171,000.

Future betting markets involving Caffe Florian are listed on the Australian betting sites list.
