Moana Spirit maintains perfect start in the 2026 Geelong Diamond

Moana Spirit has continued her rapid rise through the juvenile ranks, remaining unbeaten after claiming the Geelong Diamond (1100m) at just her second career start.

The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained filly showed maturity and a sharp turn of foot to defeat a competitive field, confirming the promise she displayed when successful on debut at Morphettville.

Calvin McEvoy said the filly had taken noticeable improvement since returning to Flemington.

“She’s a beautiful, laid-back filly and very unassuming,” McEvoy said.

“She was quite raw in her work going towards Adelaide and we didn’t expect a huge amount. She went over there, she won, and since she returned to Flemington, we noticed that she’d really switched on and I thought her jump-out in between was fantastic.”

Luke Currie, who guided the filly to victory, said her performance exceeded expectations.

“She’s improved a lot,” Currie said.

“She jumped well again, there was solid pressure, I came back, and she had the right run. When I asked her, she was really sharp.”

Moana Spirit proved too strong in the closing stages, pulling clear to beat Ghana’s Akan by two lengths, with Fine Sierra a further length away in third.

The Tagaloa filly is now expected to be set for the Group 3 Blue Diamond Preview (1000m), ahead of a possible tilt at the $2 million Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

“Everything about her tells us that she’s going to be better at three, but she’s two from two, she’s won her way in today,” McEvoy said.

Those looking to follow Moana Spirit’s path and explore betting opportunities on upcoming juvenile features can do so via leading Australian betting platforms.
