Golden Slipper Stakes 2026 plans for Godolphin’s Outspan

Posted by RS NewsWire at 6:33pm on January 17th

The Godolphin-trained Outspan has thrust himself into Golden Slipper calculations after a commanding win at Rosehill on Saturday.

After settling just behind the speed in the 1100m contest, the Michael Freedman-trained colt finished strongly to defeat Long Throw ($15) by 1-1/2 lengths, with Miss Chanel ($4.60) another half-length back.

The performance marked a significant improvement on his debut effort and left connections confident more improvement is to come.

“He came on a lot from his first run,” stable representative Sophie Johnson said.

“Sam was able to get him into a great spot and he travelled beautifully before letting down.”

“He was still learning last start but today he showed what he’s capable of.”

The win pushed his earnings beyond $110,000 and saw him move closer to Golden Slipper contention.

“We’re happy with how he’s progressing,” Johnson said.

“You don’t want to rush these two-year-olds, so we’ll just take it step by step.”

“Michael will be back next week and we’ll reassess then.”

With markets now updating, racegoers can follow Outspan’s Slipper prospects through leading horse racing betting sites.

Clipperton was pleased to make amends after the colt’s first-up effort.

“He learned plenty last time and that set him up today,” he said.

“He’s got good ability and I think he’ll get further as he matures.”

Outspan has since been trimmed into $34 for the Golden Slipper, to be run at Rosehill Gardens on March 21.
