Top fillies on 2026 Surround Stakes collision course

Tempted and Apocalyptic appear set for an eventual showdown in the Surround Stakes, with both fillies beginning their autumn preparations this week.
Tempted, runner-up in The Everest, will trial over 1000 metres at Randwick, while Apocalyptic steps out over 900 metres.
Despite being among the leading fillies of their generation, the pair have never met on raceday.
Michael Freedman confirmed Apocalyptic would resume in the Light Fingers Stakes, with the Surround Stakes pencilled in next.
Ciaron Maher’s assistant Jo Gerard-Dubord said Tempted’s campaign would follow a similar pattern to last preparation.
“She’s had a jump-out at Bong Bong, so we are just repeating what we did last prep,” she said.
“She will trial on Tuesday and then go to the Eskimo Prince.
“Three weeks between runs suits her and the Surround is the main aim.”
Gerard-Dubord said Tempted had returned in stronger condition.
“She is about fifteen kilos heavier than last time and has really strengthened up,” she said.
“She’s come back very well.”
