Take two for Jadzia at Caulfield races

Connections have opted for a more patient approach with Jadzia, who will now make her race debut at Caulfield following last week’s late scratching.
Trainer Grahame Begg elected not to run the filly in the Blue Diamond Preview due to the extreme conditions and instead target the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m).
“I just wasn’t fully comfortable with her on race morning,” Begg said.
“With young horses, you’ve got to listen to them, and with the heat and the track firming up, it wasn’t the right time.
“She was also only nine days off a trial, so the extra week works in her favour.”
Jadzia will look to follow in the footsteps of Mildred, who provided Begg with victory in the same race four years ago.
“She’s trained on really well and galloped nicely during the week,” Begg said.
“She came to us late after being prepared in Queensland, but she’s improved rapidly.
“Her jump-out and trial suggested she’s ready to take the next step.”
Begg said Saturday’s performance would dictate whether the filly progresses to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
“Ideally you’d want two runs before tackling a race like that, but we’ll assess it once she’s raced,” he said.
“She’s also nominated for the Golden Slipper, so we’ve got flexibility.”
Those looking to follow Jadzia’s debut can check current odds through leading Australian betting sites ahead of Saturday’s meeting.
