Griffith makes Compelling case for sprinter’s return in 2026 JRA Plate

Trainer Mack Griffith is confident his pair can outperform their odds when they line up at Randwick on Saturday.

Compelling Truth is the outsider in the Group 3 JRA Plate, while Crown Legend will contest the Highway Handicap at similar prices.

Despite being marked at $26, Compelling Truth has previously beaten high-class opposition and comes into the race in good order.

“He’s beaten The Instructor before and ran second to Angel Capital first-up last prep,” Griffith said.

“I was very surprised to see him at that price.”

The gelding was spelled following his run in The Kosciuszko, but Griffith said the race did not play to his strengths.

“He likes to roll along and that day nothing went his way,” he said.

“His recent trial was very good and he’s come back in great shape.”

Crown Legend also arrives in good form after a strong win last start and is expected to benefit from the tempo of the Highway.

“There’s good speed which will suit him,” Griffith said.

“They’ve both drawn well and I think they’ll both run better than people expect.”
