Mareth set for major challenge against mares in Millie Fox Stakes

Rising star filly Mareth encounters a significant autumn hurdle by competing with more experienced mares in the Millie Fox Stakes held at Rosehill.
Having raced on just five occasions, the three-year-old claimed her maiden at Canterbury during December and then was narrowly beaten by impressive filly Caffe Florian in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m).
Her trainer, Michael Freedman, has intensified the opposition for this resuming effort, pitting her against battle-hardened rivals Lazzura, Oh Diamond Lil, and teammate Cinsault, plus extending to 1300m for the debut time.
Jockey Zac Lloyd partners Mareth once more after their Gosford ride and views her as a no-fuss three-year-old full of promise.
"She is a very nice filly. A pleasure to ride, and she does everything right," Lloyd said.
"She has obviously made her way through the grades quite quickly.
"She was unlucky not to win the Gosford Guineas. Her performance was very good, we just bumped into a very smart horse.
"We will get a good guide on her level at the moment after Saturday."
The $2.50 market elect Lazzura seeks to hand trainer Chris Waller a record eighth victory in the Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) and his third straight following Firestorm in 2025 and Zougotcha in 2024.
Waller introduces Pinito ($12) to the stable, her first run since second in June's Queensland Oaks (2200m) after transferring from James Cummings.
Godolphin's trio in the feature comprises Pinito alongside Mareth ($10) and Cinsault ($6.50).
