Freedman eyes Ninja's mile potential in Randwick Guineas

Michael Freedman counts on Ninja getting forward in the run as an essential element boosting his shot at the Group One Randwick Guineas.

Unlike key challengers Autumn Boy and Attica, who prefer to come from off the pace, Ninja showed his flexibility in the Hobartville Stakes (1400m) by tracking the pacesetter and powering away to an impressive success.

Although the mile will be new territory for him on Saturday, with his dam by So You Think, Freedman has no hesitation in discovering if the three-year-old possesses the stamina to go further.

"He has never been tried at it, and there is only one way to find out," Freedman said.

"His racing style, where he can sit handy if needs be, that's a big advantage.
I've got no more insight into whether he'll run it out or not, but he will certainly run well.
He's been very full of himself and right on his feed, so I'm happy to press on."

Stable companion Decorum will also line up alongside Ninja, having notched consecutive victories on midweek cards at Warwick Farm to book his place.

According to Freedman, Decorum could be outclassed by some market leaders on Saturday, but he regards it as a platform for progression to mid-distance races in the carnival ahead.

Decorum has potential paths including the Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Tulloch Stakes (2000m), plus a nomination for the ATC Australian Derby (2400m).

"It's a stepping stone perhaps to something else over a bit further for him, but it gives us a look at him against some of the better quality horses," Freedman said.

The Victorian raider Sheza Alibi is now $2.50 favourite for the Randwick Guineas after firming past Autumn Boy ($2.90), leaving Ninja at $5.50 in third spot while Decorum is $10.

Sheza Alibi seeks to emulate Mosheen as the first filly victor since 2012.
