Fortunes due to improve for backmarker Bauhinia
Bauhinia, known for settling towards the rear naturally, has often lacked the rub of the green in her races.
Co-trainer Lee Curtis expects the mare to see her luck change for the better over autumn, kicking off in Saturday's Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) at Randwick.
"Her work has been as good as ever, if not better," Curtis said.
"Her trial was really good. She finished behind Peter Snowden's horse, Raging Force, and she beat home Arctic Glamour in the trial.
"She's going super. We only gave her one trial but we're happy."
The mare has secured two wins from her 11 career starts and held her own against quality Sydney females during the spring campaign, registering an unfortunate fifth to Stefi Magnetica in The Invitation (1400m) and coming up just short of Arctic Glamour in the Hot Danish Stakes (1400m).
According to Curtis, she will be granted room to settle from a central gate on Saturday, maximising her opportunity to deliver her devastating late charge.
"It's a six furlong race, so she will be getting back anyway," he said.
"She's third in the betting so she is a chance."
Gangsta Granny ($3.20) holds a slight edge over Idle Flyer ($3.50) in the market for the Wenona Girl, with only those three horses under double figures and Bauhinia third-favoured at $9.50.
