Tough gate awaits Generosity in The Galaxy sprint

The barrier draw success Chris Waller enjoyed for the Golden Slipper fails to repeat in Group 1 The Galaxy, leaving his lone representative Generosity to launch from the widest stall.
Catch The Glory, the first emergency, is the only one positioned further out, meaning Generosity takes the extreme outside draw of 14 unless the reserves scratch.
From the previous 20 editions of The Galaxy (1100m), six champions emerged from barriers in double figures, but solely Russian Revolution in 2017 triumphed from gate 14.
Top rider James McDonald partners Generosity, who heads into Saturday's showcase dash in peak condition following a narrow success over prior Golden Slipper winner Marhoona on debut back in the Challenge Stakes (1000m).
Drifting to $10 in that contest, Generosity caught punters off guard, but her trainer Chris Waller saw it coming.
"No. We picked the race and then chose not to run in other races, so it was good to see the result," Waller said.
"She has promised a good win. She has been unlucky in some good races, so when she got out in clear air, it was good to see her do it."
Beginning her career in Perth, Generosity secured a placing during the 2025 The Quokka (1200m) and then highlighted her ability with a late charge to fifth in Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville in May.
Switching to Waller's team afterward, she competed creditably finishing behind Lady Shenandoah in September's Concorde Stakes (1000m), followed by solid efforts trailing Joliestar and Briasa in The Shorts (1100m) and missing Rothfire by two lengths in the Sydney Stakes (1200m).
Capable at Listed level to 1400m, her recent zest for sprints has Waller flexible on her optimum range.
"When we got her, we thought, we'll pick out a 1300 or 1400 metre 'good race'," Waller said.
"But she has actually been quite sharp."
Briasa, victor of last year's T J Smith Stakes, returns with high expectations in The Galaxy after two dominant trial victories.
His sharp record when fresh sees him lumbered with 58.5kg; success would eclipse all in the past two decades, outdoing Eduardo (2021) and Temple Of Boom (2012) at 57kg as the heaviest beyond 55.5kg.
