Odds-on Aeliana primed for tancred stakes group 1 follow-up

Stablemate Autumn Glow's pursuit of the Queen Elizabeth Stakes has been locked in this week, paving the way for Aeliana to return swiftly at Rosehill to tackle Tancred Stakes champion Dubai Honour.
One of Chris Waller and James Mcdonald's trio of Group 1 conquests on Golden Slipper Day, Aeliana hasn't tackled back-to-back Saturdays before, while the Tancred Stakes is her return to 2400m post her crushing ATC Australian Derby win 12 months back.
She's a resounding $1.65 market elect, from Dubai Honour at $4.20, with five more from the Waller team entered, such as the upwardly mobile Soul Of Spain.
In the event of a Waller upset, assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth nominated the Sky High Stakes runner-up last time as a serious danger.
"I think he's going to be hard to beat," Duckworth said.
"Aeliana is on the back-up. It was a tough, testing run (in the Ranvet Stakes).
"She's got the form and everything, but a mile-and-a-half at three-year-old grade against a mile-and-a-half against these older, tougher horses is a different ball game.
"River Of Stars will improve up to 2400 metres, and you will see the same from Valiant King. He jumps out of the ground when he gets to 2400 metres as well, so we've got some very good hopes."
In the previous 10 years, mares have taken out the Tancred Stakes (2400m) on three occasions, Verry Elleegant the latest in 2020.
Mcdonald sticks with Aeliana and links with Waller in the supporting Group 1, piloting former New Zealander Ohope Wins on her Sydney bow for the stable in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
