Darley australia to host retired godolphin colts tentyris and observer

A pair of Godolphin colts, each with two Group 1 wins under their belts, have ended their track careers and will stand at stud with Darley later this year.

The decision to retire Tentyris and Observer was made public on Monday, seeing them allocated to Darley Australia's separate venues.

By Street Boss, Tentyris landed the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) last spring then a return victory in the Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) this season, and he will be based at Kelvinside, New South Wales, at $88,000 (inc GST).

The Victoria Derby (2500m) and Australian Guineas (1600m) conqueror Observer, sired by Ghaiyyath, is set for Seymour, Victoria, with a $33,000 service fee.

"Tentyris and Observer are two of the best from our outstanding three-year-old crop," Godolphin Australia managing director Andy Makiv said.

"This season is a credit to everyone involved, from those on the farms to our people in the office, right through to the trainers and their staff.

"To be so competitive on the racetrack this season and win races like the Coolmore, Lightning, Guineas and Derby is something everyone at Godolphin should be very proud of."

After a tail-end finish in the T J Smith Stakes (1200m), Tentyris retires. He added to his Group 1 successes with a short-head second in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) plus a win in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) as a two-year-old.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, the colt bows out with five victories in 10 races, two other podiums lifting his total stakes to $2.65m.

With five triumphs in 11 starts, Observer earned $2.7m including Group 1 placings in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) and Rosehill Guineas (2000m), complemented by Group 2 wins in the Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) and Autumn Stakes (1400m).

Under Ciaron Maher for his final effort, Observer ran fifth to Green Spaces in the Group 1 ATC Australian Derby (2400m), the winner also draped in Godolphin blue.
