Ipswich test for Pollard's new filly Scrumptious

Although Todd Pollard has only recently launched his independent training venture, his team is already increasing in size within months.

The former Annabel assistant has brought in Scrumptious as a fresh team member with strong prospects ahead.

The three-year-old filly was previously handled by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott until last month, when she fetched $75,000 at an Inglis internet sale; now Pollard is spotting her talent that could emerge in Thursday's Seven Benchmark 70 Handicap (1350m) at Ipswich.

"We scratched from a sticky draw yesterday at Doomben and this is a similar race although a step up in trip but this is a bit weaker than the midweek metro grade last time," Pollard said.

"She is a pretty handy horse and being a winner in town in Sydney, she does get hammered by the handicapper up here.

"She has been rated like she has won two-and-a-half races rather than one race."

Scrumptious proved her class by claiming her maiden at Canterbury on January 30 over 1250m and is listed at $3.50 odds for the Ipswich feature today.

She was seventh last time out, three lengths behind at Doomben going 1200m.

"Last start in benchmark 70 grade, it was actually a pretty strong race and for a lightly raced three-year-old filly she was taking on handy opposition.

"There were horses there a couple of horses who have won six races and that was tough on a little three-year-old filly.

"She is probably looking for 1350m and, who knows, she might even get to a mile in time."

Ben Thompson, who rode her last start, sticks with Scrumptious from barrier two at Ipswich.
