Clayton Douglas sends Title Fighter out for repeat Straight Six success

Sprinter Title Fighter travels to Flemington under trainer Clayton Douglas with designs on history repeating itself.

The fast finisher has been entered for Saturday's Listed Straight Six (1200m) where he seeks back-to-back triumphs having previously bested Deekay.

Heading into last year's edition, Title Fighter was sixth to Dashing in the Listed Wangoom (1200m) at Warrnambool, contrasting his fourth to Oliveanotherday this time in the Warrnambool feature.

Title Fighter faces a tougher weight assignment now, climbing from 54kg to 60kg at Flemington, but gains the expertise of Jamie Mott, Victoria's premier rider this campaign with 102 successes, two shy of Craig Williams in the Melbourne Jockeys' Premiership.

According to Douglas, Saturday's race was targeted third-up for Title Fighter, with the gelding crucially tuned via a pair of 1200m efforts.

His first run back saw Title Fighter charge late into fifth behind Recon during the Listed Hareeba Stakes (1200m) at Mornington Cup Day.

"He obviously won the race last year and it's been a bit of a plan to keep him on a similar program this time," Douglas said.

"These three runs have all be planned since the start of his campaign.

"He was good first-up, was good again last week behind a nice horse and hopefully he can get the job done third-up.

"We won't have to do much with him this week after his run on that heavy track last time.

"He had a nice enough blow after the race on that heavy ground, so he should take plenty of improvement from it."

In the Saturday sprint, Title Fighter co-heads the weights at 60kg with Corniche from Shawn Mathrick's stable, from a nomination list of 21 that boasts names like Pop Award, De Bergerac, Losesomewinmore, Immortal Star from the Wangoom runners-up spot, plus Stoli Bolli.
