Abounding's scratch lets Napoleonic into Doomben 10,000 lineup

Confirmation has arrived that Napoleonic will join the Doomben 10,000 field, following Abounding's removal which opened the door for the colt in the elite Group 1 dash.
Team members experienced a stressful seven days after the three-year-old earned second emergency status for the $1.5 million event, as reserve Beadman claimed a berth Wednesday when Lady Of Camelot exited with a sting ray cut.
Napoleonic's handler Tom Charlton revealed a fallback option was ready, but confirmation of the start brought huge relief, allowing adherence to the planned trio of races: the Doomben 10,000 (1200m), Fred Best Classic (1400m) and Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).
"It's important because he looks like he's in a big race with a chance," Charlton said.
"It has always been the plan, and it's not normally a race where you get a full field. Normally a (benchmark rating) 103 three-year-old gets in, so it was a bit of a spanner in the works.
"But thankfully, we're in."
Having not competed since a respectable performance against Australia's finest sprinters in March's Canterbury Stakes (1300m), Napoleonic transported to Brisbane by float Thursday.
According to Charlton, the trip went without issues after a powerful workout midweek with his Doomben 10,000 pilot James McDonald aboard.
"He worked very well with Linebacker on Tuesday. James came in and rode him, which makes our life easy because he knows where we're at, and he was very pleased," Charlton said.
"We can't fault the preparation thus far."
In current Doomben 10,000 betting, Napoleonic matches Grafterburners at $6.50 for second favouritism, behind pacesetting $3.50 pick Jimmysstar.
