Flemington awaits Concord Connie's next bold move

Trainer Charlotte Littlefield hopes her talented filly Concord Connie can replicate her recent feat before entertaining grander aspirations.

In her third race appearance at Flemington on Anzac Day, Concord Connie notched a breathtaking win by six lengths in sharp time.

This Saturday, the filly heads back to Flemington to compete against the males in the K A Morrison Handicap (1400m).

"We're just trying to keep a lid on her at the moment and not get ahead of ourselves," Littlefield said.

"She has to back-up that performance before we start jumping up and down, but she's in really good order.

"She's doing everything you want to see, she's ticked all the boxes, and we've got to get through one more day."

That Flemington win was Concord Connie's second for the season, with Littlefield outlining plans to keep things measured this time around.

The three-year-old impressed in a gallop at Pakenham earlier this week, building on a solid course gallop from the week before.

"She's a naturally athletic, fit and a gifted horse aerobically," Littlefield said.

"I can't fault the horse, and we'll see how she goes on Saturday."

Having managed hype with She's Bulletproof, the Group 1-placed mare now retired, Littlefield feels no such intensity with Concord Connie as yet.

Still, the filly's recent triumph has sparked interest, and victory on Saturday might intensify the spotlight.

"We haven't gone to lofty heights, we're in a handicap for three-year-olds," Littlefield said.

"We haven't gone too high and this might be her last run before she heads to the paddock with spring aims.

"She's a filly that is still quite fragile at times, quite sensitive and I think doing too much at this time will be detrimental to her future."
