Black Caviar's Granddaughter Victorious at Randwick

The distinguished lineage of former champion sprinter Black Caviar was on full display during the midweek Sydney racing program, as her granddaughter, Ready Forcocktails, clinched an impressive maiden win.

The filly, under the care of trainers John, Wayne, and Michael Hawkes, was competing for the fourth time and second this preparation, following a runner-up finish to Celestial Charm on the Kensington track in her previous outing.

Jockey Tyler Schiller, who partnered the three-year-old to victory, acknowledged the filly's consistent talent observed during her training sessions and expressed his satisfaction with her breakthrough win.

"She has always shown so much at home, so we expected a bit before this run," Schiller said. "But obviously, she ran into a nice enough two-year-old last start and last 'prep', she didn't have a couple of things go her way. Today, she has found the right race to get a bit of confidence under the belt."

Ready Forcocktails ($3.20 fav) demonstrated a swift turn of foot when prompted by Schiller, securing the TAB Plate (1150m) by a margin of three lengths over Claudel ($4.60). Sorentina ($18) finished a further three-quarters of a length adrift in third position.

Schiller noted that the mare performed optimally with a genuine tempo and sustained her strong finish through the line.

"She lobbed in a lovely spot, and the pace was nice today," he added. "The other day it was a touch steady for her, but very happy with the way she has put them away."

In other news, the two-year-old filly Consulate fulfilled expectations with her first city success in the Robrick Lodge Plate (1250m).

Charlie Duckworth, assistant trainer for Chris Waller, mentioned that the stable held the juvenile's half-brother, Battuta, in high esteem, which was a key factor in their decision to acquire her as a yearling.

"It's a bit of a relief really. We had the half-brother called Battuta, who showed a lot of early promise and that was a good reason behind purchasing this filly at the Easter sales," Duckworth explained. "Unfortunately, he didn't quite work out, but she looks like she is. Hopefully she can go on with the task now. Over further, she is going to be better suited."

The $2.60 favourite, Consulate, managed to overcome a determined Castelbella ($12), with the stable's other contender, Snitzel's Girl ($6.50), finishing in third place.

With Ready Forcocktails showing such promise, the racing betting markets are sure to be active for her upcoming starts. Explore the latest offerings at online bookmakers.
