Bohemian Angel ready for stable switch debut at Murray Bridge

Following a false start last week, Bohemian Angel, a four-year-old mare, is set to make her debut for Phillip Stokes this Saturday at Murray Bridge.

The mare, formerly under the care of Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, was initially entered for a 1000-metre race at Morphettville Parks last Saturday. However, the stable decided to defer her first start for them until the upcoming weekend.

Tommy Stokes, son of trainer Phillip and assistant trainer, indicated they were pleased with the decision. He pointed out that their promising stablemate Tobikko was narrowly beaten by Bardigrub, and Bohemian Angel will now compete against her own sex in the benchmark 64 event over 1100 metres this weekend.

"We had her in at the Parks track but she drew wide," Stokes shared. "Plus, we had another horse in it that went good, we just try to avoid that (clashing), and wanted to make sure she's ready to fire first-up."

The advantage of holding off Bohemian Angel's stable debut is that she is expected to encounter a heavy track, which Stokes believes she will handle adeptly.

The Harry Angel filly's only public outing for the Stokes stable occurred during a 900-metre Traralgon jumpout on June 16, where she finished ahead of the talented stablemate Snow Mercy.

"We wanted to see her in trial conditions before we had a real opinion of her and we sent her to Traralgon a couple of weeks ago and she trialled up really good from off the speed," Stokes commented. "It was probably a Heavy 8 that day and she handled it perfectly and beat a horse that's won a Group 3 in Snow Mercy. The trial form is good, her trackwork at home has been really good and I think it's just the perfect race."

Bohemian Angel, to be ridden by Will Price, was positioned as the second favourite at $4.80 in betting markets on Friday morning, with the less-raced Victorian filly Restless Wind ($4.40) being the market leader.
