Lockwood's filly Extreme Taste faces draw challenge
Trainer Barry Lockwood initially commented that there wasn't much to say about his filly Extreme Taste "because she hasn't won yet," but upon further discussion, he is considerably more positive about her chances of success at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Extreme Taste, a maiden after three starts, is set to compete in the Ipswich Party Hire Fillies and Mares Maiden (1200m). This will be her second run this preparation, commencing from barrier nine after a third-place finish at Doomben over 1110m in maiden company on May 24.
"The only thing that will stop her is the wide gate," Lockwood remarked. "She's ready to win but just needs a bit of luck and I think it was a bit of pilot error as the rider gave away the run to the winner. Going four-deep on the corner and staying there didn't help. She did a lot of work and the wider the rail is and the wider you are, the worse it gets."
Currently the $2.80 favourite, Extreme Taste will be ridden by two-kilo claiming apprentice Benjamin Osmond, with Damien Boche out injured following a recent fall at Gold Coast.
"If she gets a nice run from the barrier, she'll be very hard to beat," veteran trainer Lockwood elaborated. He's relishing the experience of a training partnership with Emma-Jane Vincent, which was officially established late last year.
By American-bred mare Leamington and sire Extreme Choice, Extreme Taste boasts a strong family line, with five of her seven siblings having achieved multiple wins.
