Angels Fury returns to Caulfield after maiden success

High expectations accompanied Angels Fury when she made her initial appearance at Caulfield earlier this year.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly, sent off as the heavily supported $1.70 favourite following impressive jump-outs, faltered in the Blue Diamond Preview in January, finishing last.
However, last month saw Angels Fury make a successful return in a country two-year-old maiden, saluting as the easing $1.95 top elect.
Now, Angels Fury is set to contest the Sportsbet Race Reviews Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield this Saturday, aiming to recapture her early promise.
Jack Turnbull, National Assistant Trainer for Ciaron Maher Racing, confirmed the stable's enduring high regard for the filly, believing she possesses the potential for a strong career.
"She's always been impressive since day one," Turnbull remarked.
"To run on debut and run the way she did was very deflating, but at the end of the day we knew we had a young horse that pulled up with a few issues and we were able to reset and come back."
"All through her training this prep, she has been A-one. It's been there to see in her jump-outs and that translated into her Bendigo run."
So convinced was the Maher team of Angels Fury's ability that they secured her half-brother, a son of Spirit Of Boom, at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale even before the filly's debut.
"You want to back your judgement of what you see at home and to see it race day, even in a maiden, it's very satisfying," Turnbull added.
"Hopefully we can continue because she has a lot of upside."
Turnbull indicated that Angels Fury's performance on Saturday would be a key factor in mapping out her future campaign.
The stable's plan is a gradual progression, "a month, month, month," provided things proceed smoothly.
"If she was to win on Saturday, being a city class race, you would have to consider going up in class, a Stakes race, but we're one race at a time," Turnbull stated.
"She'll get there eventually, whether it's this spring or the autumn."
Jabez Johnstone, an apprentice in strong form, will pilot Angels Fury with a 3kg claim, bringing her weight down to 54.5kg.
