Burning Heartz set for Adelaide Stakes test

Trainer Gavin Bedggood envisions a future for Burning Heartz in an Oaks race, but his immediate goal is to secure some valuable Stakes black type for the filly.

Burning Heartz, a winner on debut at Sandown on July 1, is now heading to Adelaide to contest the Group 3 South Australian Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

The decision to race in Adelaide instead of spelling the filly after her Sandown win was influenced by the prospect of adding a Stakes victory to her already impressive debut success.

Furthermore, the favourable track conditions in Adelaide, which were heavy on Friday, aligned with the filly's preference, having won on a heavy track at Sandown.

"I had the option of tipping her out and putting her away for the spring, but's shown us that she's very adept on wet ground," Bedggood explained.

"There was this Stakes race, so it's a chance to have a two-year-old that's a city winner with the chance to add some Black Type to her name."

"It is almost mission accomplished if she could do that."

"She's got good ability. Wet ground is zero issue, and she's drawn a good barrier, so I think she will be very competitive over there."

Bedggood mentioned that Burning Heartz would eventually need a spell, which could potentially rule out an appearance in the VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington in November.

However, he pointed out that numerous Oaks races are scheduled for the autumn, where tracks might be more conducive to her running style.

"We'll reassess what happens after Saturday's race, but she will need a break at some point," Bedggood said.

"How long that is, I'm not too sure."

"You would like to think she could be an Oaks filly, but that may be in the autumn when the tracks are a bit softer too."
