Cavalry Girl cruises to victory at Caulfield

Cavalry Girl has continued her impressive run of form with a dominant win at Caulfield Heath.
Having recently claimed her maiden Black Type victory in Adelaide, Cavalry Girl competed in open company on Saturday and effortlessly outclassed her rivals in the Sweeney Estate Agents Handicap (1000m).
The $2.80 favourite, ridden by Linda Meech, displayed a potent burst of speed soon after the home turn to seal the win, defeating Along The River ($5) by a significant 3-¾ lengths. Bazaball Reward ($4) finished a neck behind in third place. Punters evaluating online bookmakers would have been impressed by the favourite's display.
Joe O'Neill, who is a senior owner of Cavalry Girl, indicated that a conversation with trainer Tom Dabernig would take place to decide the mare's next steps heading into the spring racing season.
"What we might do is step back," O'Neill said. "She's had a pretty good prep, and you can go to the well once too often."
"She loves the straight at Flemington and to be there during Melbourne Cup week would be nice, but we'll just see. There are options. There are races in Sydney, there are races here, but I don't know if Sandown would suit her. She can only do what she is doing, and she is belting them and that was a pretty fair field."
O'Neill has almost certainly ruled out the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m), scheduled this year for Sandown, preferring sprint races down the Flemington straight during Cup week, a track where Cavalry Girl has previously tasted success.
Cavalry Girl, a four-year-old by Bivouac, has now won six of her sixteen starts, adding four placings and accumulating just under $400,000 in career earnings.
O'Neill described the mare as a 'marvel'.
"She's a beautiful filly," O'Neill stated. "I saw Bivouac up at the Hunter Valley on the weekend and I was talking to the boys that she looks like an Exceed And Excel filly, which Bivouac is by, and being from an I Am Invincible mare, and they're gold. She's a terrific filly and she annihilated them today. I was a bit worried today against the older horses, but she won well."
The impressive win sets Cavalry Girl up for a strong spring campaign, and punters can find competitive racing odds on upcoming races at leading bookmakers.
