In-form mare Flyer set for stud after Caulfield success

Trainer Jason Warren is hopeful of identifying another suitable Stakes race for the mare Flyer before she transitions to a life of stud duties.

Flyer achieved a significant, long-priced victory in the MSC Signs Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield Heath last Saturday. Warren shared that the mare is already booked to be served by Toronado in the upcoming breeding season.

The win, completing a double for jockey Jye McNeil, saw Flyer ($21) win by a head from Welcometotheshow ($41), with the heavily favoured Custom ($1.75) finishing a short neck back in third. This result provided one of the day's major surprises for those following the racing betting markets.

"We thought she was a terrific chance today," Warren disclosed.

"Her price was good and I hope the team at Rosemont had something on.

"She's a stable favourite and she's heading to the breeding barn this year.

"I think we'll be looking for an early cover, but in saying that, she's probably earned herself another run before she goes to stud.

"She's got a date with Toronado, I believe. She's going to make a terrific broodmare, just like her mother (Miss Toorak Flyer) did."

Flyer's racing career began with a debut win as a two-year-old, and she later claimed the Group 3 David Coles Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in her juvenile year.

Following a two-year period without a win, she secured a victory at Caulfield on May 30.

Warren indicated that there were justifiable reasons for Flyer's performance in her most recent start, where she finished in the midfield over 1200m at Flemington on July 18.

"She likes soft tracks and things didn't work out for her last start," Warren explained.

"She began too well at Flemington on the big, wide-open track and she needed to come back here around a bend.

"It's nice to get another winner for Rosemont as they support our stable so well and she's been a terrific horse for them."

Warren manages dual training facilities, one in Mornington and a more relaxed country property at Bass on Westernport Bay, noting that the Bass location has proven advantageous for Flyer.

"We take them all down to Bass after they race and she had her final gallop at Mornington on Tuesday," Warren mentioned.

"She spends time in the paddock between runs, and you can see your reflection in her coat, she's that healthy.

"She's a happy mare and it's all about keeping her happy."
