Caulfield Heath trial to feature spring hopefuls

Seven horses with spring ambitions are slated to compete in a special trial at Caulfield Heath before the main racing program at Caulfield begins.

The Melbourne Racing Club has provided a valuable opportunity for trainers seeking a turf trial for some of Victoria's potential spring stars.

Caulfield Heath will host the specially arranged trial on Saturday, 45 minutes ahead of the first race at Caulfield.

The lineup of seven includes Aethera, De Bergerac, Giga Kick, Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, Treasurethe Moment, and Yellow Jersey, all set to contest the 1000-metre event.

The MRC, in partnership with Racing Victoria, the Australian Trainers' Association, and the Victorian Jockeys' Association, collaborated to organise this trial.

This trial is considered crucial for Mr Brightside, Tom Kitten, and Treasurethe Moment, as they are being readied for their initial starts in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on August 29.

Damp conditions throughout Victoria in the past week have presented challenges for horses preparing for the forthcoming Melbourne Spring Carnival. Specifically, horses at Mornington saw their Wednesday jump-outs cancelled, and similar turf jump-outs at Cranbourne last Monday were also scrapped and moved to the synthetic track.

The MRC will also be holding jump-outs at Caulfield Heath next Wednesday, which are typically designated for Mornington-based horses.

Nonetheless, the MRC and RV have consented to allow up to 40 horses not trained at Mornington to participate in gallops on the outer Caulfield Heath track.

Monday marks the closing date for nominations for these jump-outs, with preliminary signs pointing to a strong contingent of potential spring contenders in the nominated fields.
