Craig Williams enjoys a stellar day at Sandown with four wins, including Carlyon Stakes

Sandown proved a happy hunting ground for jockey Craig Williams on Saturday, as the premier rider dominated the meeting transferred from Moonee Valley, securing four victories including the feature Group 3 Carlyon Stakes.
Williams piloted Cavalry Girl, trained by Tom Dabernig, to a stylish win in the 1000m feature, capping a highly successful day at the suburban track.
While Williams has enjoyed considerable success at Sandown previously, including a Group 1 Underwood Stakes aboard Zaaki, he noted that opportunities in feature races at the track are less frequent these days, making the day's success particularly pleasing.
"We've been lucky that Sandown can take the weight (of transferred meetings) and it's great to see plenty of people here and have a good day," Williams remarked.
His quartet of wins included a successful hat-trick aboard Cavalry Girl, having earlier partnered Final Moment for trainer Clayton Douglas and Buggsy for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.
The first of Williams' victories came aboard the Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Nearco Frod, who notched up its fourth consecutive win in a 2400m event.
The Carlyon Stakes saw Williams reunited with Cavalry Girl, who had registered commanding wins at her previous two starts under Todd Pannell and Linda Meech.
On this occasion, the four-year-old mare by Bivouac adopted a more patient approach, settling behind Beast Mode before unleashing a potent burst through a tight inside gap in the closing 200 metres.
The $2.30 favourite held on by half-a-length from Bazaball Rewarded ($10), with Losesomewinmore ($7.50) a further length behind in third. The market had this one right, with the favourite justifying the strong support.
Williams highlighted Cavalry Girl's adaptability and progression this campaign, suggesting her Sandown success opens up options for the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at the same track on September 5.
"She's ticked another box coming here and being successful at Sandown, which may give Tom a good option in two weeks," Williams said. "She would definitely be putting her hand up very high in a Moir this year."
Cavalry Girl subsequently firmed into $4.50 second favouritism for the Moir Stakes, sitting behind the likely pacesetter Natural Fling ($3.50).
