Generosity poised for Group 1 Moir Stakes
There was a period earlier this year when Chris Waller considered letting go of the classy sprinting mare Generosity. However, this Saturday, she is set to kick off another racing campaign for the renowned trainer.
The six-year-old mare will make her seasonal reappearance in the lucrative $750,000 Group 1 Moir Stakes, a 1000-metre contest at Sandown.
Generosity was nominated for Inglis's Chairman's Sale in May but was subsequently withdrawn. This decision came after Waller and the ownership group B2B Thoroughbreds seriously contemplated a journey to Royal Ascot.
That potential overseas trip was shelved following her unfortunate sixth-place finish in the Group 1 Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on Anzac Day, where she was a strong favourite. Waller is pleased to retain her services.
"We took her to Adelaide and had no luck and she's spelled since," he commented.
"She was that close to going to Royal Ascot and we just pulled the pin."
"Even after that (Sangster Stakes) she was still OK, but I just thought it's a long way to go to not be a good thing."
"She's come back well, she's trailed well and she goes good fresh."
The daughter of Divine Prophet, who recorded a sixth and a fifth in two Sydney trials during August, is aiming for a maiden Group 1 triumph in the Moir Stakes.
This mare, formerly from Western Australia, has won six of her 28 starts. Her most significant win was the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) when resuming last campaign.
The Moir Stakes will mark her first appearance in Melbourne. However, the mare, acquired as a weanling for $9000, possesses considerable experience racing in the anti-clockwise direction, stemming from her initial 22 starts in Perth. She amassed over $800,000 there before being sold privately to B2B.
Generosity is slated to engage in a familiarisation gallop at Sandown on Tuesday morning. She will be joined by Giga Kick and Natural Fling, among other Moir Stakes entries expected to travel for the event.
