Chilly Girl set to bring the heat to Furious Stakes rivals
A thrilling showdown is anticipated in the upcoming Furious Stakes, featuring Rosebud winner Chilly Girl and Silver Shadow Stakes champion Pembrey, as the early form for three-year-old fillies continues to solidify.
Both fillies have made strong impressions this spring. Chilly Girl displayed grit to defeat Blue Door in the Rosebud (1100m), and Pembrey showcased her class with a decisive win over her rivals in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).
These two notable fillies are at the forefront of a ten-horse field competing for the second leg of the Princess Series. They have the chance to reinforce their debut performances against a select group that includes Reisling Stakes winner Chayan, the former Perth filly Striking Alibi, and Bangkok Hottie, the runner-up in the Silver Shadow Stakes.
Chilly Girl's co-trainer, Sterling Alexiou, reported that the filly has responded exceptionally well following her first-up victory, particularly given it was her initial outing since January and only her second career start.
"Even though she'd had a really good grounding, she was first-up after quite some time, and she really had to dig deep," Alexiou said.
"She bounced through it incredibly well. She nearly could have backed up in the Silver Shadow."
"She'll take her place in the Furious and we expect her to run really well, then she'll go on to the Tea Rose (Stakes)," he added.
The form from the Rosebud race has been subsequently validated, with Blue Door running second to the esteemed Golden Slipper winner Guest House in the San Domenico Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Chilly Girl is well-positioned with barrier three, while Pembrey will start from gate seven, and the resuming Chayan is set to jump from the widest draw.
Tim Clark will again partner the Rosebud winner, and Alexiou indicated that Chilly Girl has continued to improve.
"She has trained on well. It's going to be a pretty strong race, but we feel she's right up to those better fillies," he confirmed.
