Satono Glow on track for Roman Consul Stakes bid

Talented sprinter Satono Glow has already made a foray to Melbourne to commence her season, and if all proceeds as planned, she is set for another trip south later this month.

A minor setback before her intended Sydney resumption led trainers John O'Shea and Tom Charlton to reroute her to Victoria. There, the three-year-old filly delivered an impressive victory in the Cap D'Antibes Stakes (1100m) at Flemington.

While the option to remain in Melbourne existed, Charlton confirmed their decision to bring her back for Saturday's Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill. They believed she had sufficient preparation on the straight course, with the primary goal being the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on October 28.

"This race – bringing her back home and preparing her from here – we thought would be preferable to going to the Danehill (Stakes)," Charlton explained.

"She's had two goes at the straight, so we don't feel like we need to do that by any means. We know each time we've prepared her from Sydney and trucked her down (she's won), so we'll try to replicate that, all being well, in the Coolmore.

"The Roman Consul has such a good record going into the Coolmore in recent years and that was the main factor."

Satono Glow, the sole filly contesting the Roman Consul Stakes, was the subject of interest from an Everest slot holder who contacted her connections to explore their willingness for a start in the lucrative $20 million race.

Considering her relative inexperience, the offer was quickly dismissed, but Charlton expressed hope for a different outcome in the following year.

"We felt that wasn't the right race for her. We're trying to build her profile and she's still young," he said.

"We didn't think it was the right set-up for her at this stage. Hopefully next year."

The stable also has Peyton engaged in the Rosehill feature. However, Charlton voiced caution regarding the colt's prospects after he missed his intended second-up start at Warwick Farm on September 23, having reared in the barriers and been a late scratching.

"We were hoping to go there, then here," Charlton commented.

"He hasn't had the perfect preparation for it, but he needs to get racing before potentially looking at something like a Red Anchor Stakes at Flemington.

"If he can run well on Saturday he will come on significantly from it."

Peyton is currently available at $41, while Satono Glow – aiming to emulate Jolie Bay's 2012 achievement as the last filly to win the Roman Consul Stakes – is the $2.90 second favourite behind the $2.60 market leader, Paradoxium.
