Beadman benefits from return to Randwick

A homecoming to Randwick is expected to suit Beadman much better, after the promising sprinter fell victim to the Caulfield curse during a quick trip to Melbourne.

The tricky Caulfield track has tripped up many a Sydney-trained galloper, and the four-year-old was one of them, getting too far back from a wide draw in the Manikato Stakes (1200m) and never being a factor.

"He was lost going to Caulfield," trainer Peter Snowden said. "He didn't know where he was. He still ran on late, but he drew really badly and made the ground late when the race was all over. It was very fast time, too. They ran just over 1:08 and the rail was out '100' metres, so it was amazing time they ran."

Before that outing, Beadman had produced an impressive third behind future Everest contenders Tempted and Headwall in the Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick. He now returns to familiar territory for Saturday's $2 million Sydney Stakes (1200m) on his home track.

Snowden commented that the horse had thrived since his return from Melbourne and anticipates a significantly improved performance.

"He had a couple of days in the paddock on the way home, and he's freshened up nicely, so he should run well," he affirmed.

Beadman has drawn barrier 11 in the large 16-runner field and will be guided by champion Hong Kong jockey Zac Purton, who previously partnered Ka Ying Rising and secured last year's Everest consolation race aboard Rothfire.

The entire has already attracted some early support, firming from $11 to $8.50, and is known to handle damp conditions.

Snowden will also be represented by Plaintiff in the Silver Eagle (1300m). This mare is aiming to replicate her encouraging first-up fourth behind Savvy Hallie in the Sheraco Stakes (1200m), following a mid-field effort behind Tempted in the Premiere Stakes (1200m) at her most recent start.

Beadman's return to Randwick should see him perform much better this weekend. Punters can explore the latest racing betting markets for the Sydney Stakes with leading online bookmakers.
